Veterans Socials: Expanding Social Support in the Community

About

Dr. Jay Gorman is a clinical research psychologist in the VISN 1 New England Mental Illness Research, Education, and Clinical (MIRREC) Center and Director of the Social Reintegration Research Program at the VA Bedford Healthcare System. He also serves as an Assistant Professor at the Boston University School of Medicine and on several treatment related committees within and outside of VA. Dr. Gorman received seed funding through the VHA Shark Tank Competition to boost community reintegration for Veterans seeking independent living. Since then, Dr. Gorman has continued to develop and improve social reintegration programs and offerings for Veterans.

As an Entrepreneur in Residence, Dr. Gorman will be spreading awareness of the need for increased social reintegration services and programs across VA facilities and identifying new facilities to spread his programs to. He will be creating a multidisciplinary stakeholder collaboration plan, disseminating Veterans Social guidance to external VA collaborators, and decreasing loneliness and increasing social support systems for Veterans across the U.S.
