VA Partners with TechShop

Partnership Offers Free Membership to Veterans

The VA Center for Innovation (VACI) is excited to collaborate with TechShop in providing 2,000 one-year memberships at six TechShop locations across the U.S. Veterans will have full membership privileges at their TechShop location to utilize the wide array of equipment, such as milling, forming, cutting, welding, woodworking, electronics, and much, much more. Each free membership also includes $350 in free group classes.

Veterans can use TechShop's cutting edge training and equipment to become more competitive in the job market or pursue entrepreneurial goals. Indeed, TechShop members have created many new products and businesses. Some members joined specifically to pursue long-held ideas or concepts that needed the availability of equipment to turn them into reality. Other members started without a specific concept in mind, but found direction and opportunity by working with the tools, learning the capabilities, and, especially, interacting with other members. This VACI program hopes Veterans will gain immeasurably from interacting with other TechShop members, including fellow Veterans.

The six participating TechShop locations are:

  • Detroit, MI
  • Pittsburgh, PA
  • San Jose, CA
  • Austin, TX
  • Menlo Park, CA
  • San Francisco, CA

This effort supports VA's interest in finding new ways of providing Veterans with resources that help them serve an important role in America's economy. TechShop is a membership-based, do-it-yourself workshop and fabrication studio that supports a growing community of makers and innovators. TechShop also offers classes and personal instruction.

Through this partnership, 2,000 one-year memberships are available to military Veterans. If you are interested, click "Verify with Troop ID" below to start.*

Student Veterans

There are nearly 1 million Veterans enrolled in higher education today. If you are a student Veteran, this program may be particularly relevant to you as you augment traditional classroom work with exposure to advanced manufacturing equipment, traditional equipment, and training. If you served in the military and are currently enrolled in school, consider joining the VA-TechShop pilot.
